Quest For More still a Long Distance Cup possible

Roger Charlton said on Sunday he has not ruled out Quest For More seeking more QIPCO British Champions Series glory at Ascot on Saturday week.

The trainer says he is “keeping an open mind” regarding whether to let the six-year-old, who won the Prix du Cadran at Longchamp on Saturday, make a swift reappearance in the QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot on Champions Day.

That success followed his victory in the Lonsdale Cup at York in August and nose second to Sheikhzayedroad in last month’s Doncaster Cup.

“I was really pleased and his last three races particularly have been pretty faultless really,” said the Beckhampton handler.

“He’s been very tough and brave and I would imagine his rating will go up again for winning yesterday, he’s improving.

“He came back last night and he’s fine this morning.

“I’m keeping an open mind about it (Ascot). Before yesterday I was sort of thinking it was either/or, but we’ll see how he is nearer the time.

“I think there’s another race back in France for him the week after Ascot [Prix Royal Oak at Saint-Cloud, October 23], but the ground will probably be soft by then.

“Ascot is probably the most realistic target if we feel it’s the right thing to do.”
