Godolphin swoop for 2000 Guineas possible Swiss Storm

Swiss Storm, a possible contender for QIPCO British Champions Series honours this year, looks set to race in the colours of Godolphin after Sheikh Mohammed’s operation bought out trainer David Elsworth‘s half-share in the exciting Frankel colt, who bears an uncanny resemblance to his legendary sire.

The other partner in the three-year-old remains Lordship Stud, who bred him, but it seems likely that Swiss Storm will be sporting Godolphin’s famous blue silks when he is next seen on a racecourse; possibly in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury in April ahead of a possible tilt at the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 6 – the first race in this year’s Champions Series.

Swiss Storm was a buzz horse before his debut at Haydock in September but could finish only seventh of ten runners after being sent off 4-5 favourite. However, it was a different story 16 days later at Newbury, when the imposing youngster won a 7f maiden in fine style.

Jim Clarke, media manager to Godolphin, told the Racing Post: “I can confirm Godolphin have bought a half-share in Swiss Storm and he is to stay in training with David Elsworth. He’s a promising colt and I believe the plan is for him to carry the Godolphin blue next season.”

Godolphin also snapped up another Frankel colt who could make an impact in this year’s Champions Series last September – the Roger Charlton-trained Atty Persse – and their strong team of three-year-olds for this year include Best Of Days, Blue Point, Boynton, Dreamfield, Syphax and Wuheida.
