Caravaggio and Harry Angel set for July Cup rematch

Caravaggio and Harry Angel, who fought out the finish of last week’s Commonwealth Cup, are set to meet again in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket on July 15.

The pair are among 23 entries for the £500,000 showpiece, which forms apart of the QIPCO British Champions Series sprint category, and could be joined by the first three home from Saturday’s Diamond Jubilee Stakes – The Tin Man, Tasleet and Limato. The last-named was a brilliant winner of the July Cup last year.

The Tin Man was notching his second Group 1 triumph in the Diamond Jubilee, having also landed last the QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes last October.

Clive Cox, trainer of Harry Angel, said: “I am delighted with the way that Harry Angel has come out of his Royal Ascot run and at this stage I am looking very positively towards sending him to the Darley July Cup.”

“The Commonwealth Cup was a very special race, I am sure that the first three are all top class Group 1 horses, and I have no concerns with taking on Caravaggio again. However, Harry Angel only ran last week so we will be keeping a close eye on him in the next few days before making any firm plans.”

“He’s never run at Newmarket before but I don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t cope with the demands of the July Course as he’s a very well-balanced colt.”
