Dual Oaks winner Enable remains a possible runner in the QIPCO-sponsored King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

Connections of the outstanding filly are planning to leave her in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at tomortow’s confirmation stage.

The Ascot showpiece, which forms part of the Middle Distance category iof the QIPCO British Champions Series, had initially been ruled an unlikely option for the John Gosden-trained filly after she followed up her brilliant win in the Investec Oaks at Epsom in the Irish equivalent at the Curragh this month.

The Darley Yorkshire Oaks at York on August 24, which also forms part of the Champions Series, had been nominated as a possible target, but Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah, reports she will stand her ground at the five-day stage, although her participation remains uncertain.

He said: “Enable will be left in the King George on Monday, so she will still have the option (of running). I’m not saying we are definitely going to think about running, but John is keen to see how she is in the early part of the week. In theory, she could do both [Ascot and York].”

Enable’s odds have tumbled from 6-1 to 2-1 since Saturday but Highland Reel, trained by Aidan O’Brien, remains the general 6-4 favourite.
