The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on Saturday will be the fifth time in this year’s QIPCO British Champions Series that three-year-olds have clashed with their elders – and so far they are definitely getting the best of the argument.

Lady Aurelia was the only three-year-old among 17 runners in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot but the brilliant American-trained filly won easily at 7-2.

The first five home in the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket were three-year-olds, while the ten-runner Darley July Cup featured a trio of three-year-olds – with Harry Angel taking the honours for them.

The only race the older generation have landed was the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown this month, in which Ulysses, a four-year-old, prevailed by a nose from the Classic generation’s Barney Roy.

Of the 10 runners in the King George, two are three-year-olds: Enable and Benbatl.
