Ulysses remains a possible runner on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot on October 21.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-old has been one of the the stars of this year’s Series, winning the Coral-Eclipse and Juddmonte International, and he was a fine third to Enable in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe last time.

The Breeders’ Cup Turf has been a long-term target for his connections, but he has taken his exertions at Chantilly so well that his connections have not discounted running him in the QIPCO Champion Stakes against such as Cracksman, Barney Roy Winter and Poet’s Word.

Speaking to the Racing Post, Alan Cooper, racing manager for owners the Niarchos family, said: “We left him in the Champion Stakes at the last forfeit stage and Sir Michael [Stoute] will make a final decision at the beginning of next week, but the long-term plan has always been to go for the Breeders’ Cup.

“Having left him in the race there is the choice of going there. It has only been 11 days since the Arc but the horse is in very good form and I imagine we will know more at the beginning of next week.”
