The Tin Man aims for more Ascot glory

The Tin Man wins on QIPCO British Champions Day

The three-year-old Harry Angel, who is owned by Godolphin, has delighted trainer Clive Cox with his preparation and has won on ground ranging between firm and heavy. Four other speedsters who have won at least one Group 1 race – Caravaggio, The Tin Man, Quiet Reflection and Brando – also line up.

The Tin Man won last year’s renewal of the QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes and confirmed his relish for Ascot’s terrain when landing the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at the Royal Meeting in June. The five-year-old gelding, owned by the Fred Archer Syndicate (Fred Archer was champion jockey 13 times in the 19th century and was nicknamed The Tin Man), had Tasleet (second), Librisa Breeze (fourth), Tupi (sixth) on the latter occasion.

WHAT THEY SAY:
Aidan O’Brien, trainer of Caravaggio, Alphabet, Intelligence Cross and Washington DC:
“Caravaggio’s in good form and everything has gone well since his last run at the Curragh, where we were delighted with him. I’d say it is very possible it will be his last run.

“Alphabet won’t mind if it gets soft – she’s very happy on that ground. Intelligence Cross ran well in the July Cup and he’s in good form. Washington DC is also in good order – he’s a horse who needs a bit of luck in his races.”

James Fanshawe, trainer of The Tin Man:
“He seems really well, looks really well and we are all looking forward to it. It looks very competitive – more competitive than last year – but he’s got a good record on the track (three wins over course and distance) and Tom [Queally] gets on well with him.”
