The Queen could be represented in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 5 by Humbolt Current.

The son of Fastnet Rock, agenereal 66-1 for the first race in this year’s Champions Series, finished second to former stablemate Willie John at Yarmouth on his only start last year, with that colt since having been sold for 1.9 million guineas and leaving William Haggas’s team to join Roger Varian.

Humbolt Current holds an entry in the 2000 Guineas and could bid to emulate Pall Mall, successful for Her Majesty in the first Classic of the year 60 years ago.

However, the Queen’s racing manager John Warren is keeping his feet on the ground.

“We are not going to go quite as far as saying that (he’s a Guineas horse), but we are mindful,” he said. “We will try to place him where he can try to win his maiden and I think we might go to Newbury and see where we are after that.

“William has always liked him. In fact he told me he liked them both at Yarmouth. Neither were stoked up to win first time and their class just put them through it really.

“There is a lot to look forward to and I think he could be a very nice, improving horse. He has done very well. The Queen will see her stock in Newmarket in a couple of weeks.”
