John Gosden searching for more Series success

Without Parole and Stradivarius are both on course to try and give John Gosden more QIPCO British Champions Series success at the Qatar Goodwood Festival.

Gosden confirmed over the weekend that Without Parole is set to take on older horses for the first time in the Qatar Sussex Stakes on August 1.

The unbeaten Frankel colt made it four wins from as many starts with victory in the St James’s Palace Stakes, on his first run in Group 1 company.

“He came out of his last race with no bother at all. He never missed an oat, but he never does as he is a very laid-back character. He goes for the Sussex Stakes now,” said Gosden.

“We are happy at a mile, but I’m quite confident he will go further when and if he is required to.”

Stradivarius is on course for the Qatar Goodwood Cup on July 31, having recovered from an injury he sustained when winning the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.

The four-year-old remains on course for the inaugural WH Stayers’ Million, having won two legs. He now has to win at Goodwood and the Lonsdale Cup at York – another Champions Series race – to collect the bonus for connections.

“I’m pleased to say he did his first canter (on Saturday morning) and he moved well, so hopefully that is all behind us,” said the Newmarket trainer. “He is a pretty brave horse, as he had the toe clip rammed up into the bottom of his foot.

“I don’t know how it happened, but the other horse (Vazirabad) caught him late on in the race. He is fine, so we are looking towards the Goodwood Cup.”

Meanwhile, Dreamfield could be pitched into the Darley July Cup at Newmarket on July 14 after a fine effort in defeat at Royal Ascot.

The four-year-old may have lost his unbeaten run when second to Brian Meehan’s Bacchus in the Wokingham, but he emerged with great credit in going down by a neck.

“If I’m happy with Dreamfield we might have a go at the July Cup,” Gosden said. “You know what life is like, there are no dress rehearsals.”
