Outstanding filly Alpha Centauri is set to stay in training next year,  her trainer Jessica Harrington revealed on Tuesday afternoon.

The news will delight racing fans because the three-year-old filly has been outstanding this campaign – winning four successive Group 1 races.

Two of those triumphs have been in contests that have fallen under the QIPCO British Champions Series umbrella – the Coronation Stakes and Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes – and she now seems certain to chase more Series glory in 2019.

Races that seem bound to come under consideration include the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes, Queen Anne Stakes and Qatar Sussex Stakes.

Harrington made the announcement at a media event promoting next month’s Longines Irish Champions Weekend. “I believe the plan is to keep Alpha Centauri in training next year,” she said.

Alpha Centauri’s next race is set to be the Coolmore Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.

Her future entries also include the QIPCO-sponsored Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on QIPCO British Champions Day.
