Librisa Breeze will miss the 32Red Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday week and head straight to Ascot for the defence of his QIPCO British Champions Sprint title on October 20.

The six-year-old grey, trained by Dean Ivory, was a superb winner on QIPCO British Champions Day last year but has not reproduced that form in four outings this term.

On his latest start he finished last in the Hungerford Stakes over seven furlongs at Newbury but Ivory is inclined to put a line through the run.

“I ran him a bit too quick at Newbury after Deauville,” he said. “The time was four seconds slower than the standard and the race was not run to suit us.

“We will go for the Champions Sprint now. He has had two quick runs and that has taken a lot out of him.

“You only get out of them what you put in, so the plan is to give him a break before Ascot.”

The only horse to have won twice on QIPCO British Champions Day is Frankel, who won in 2011 and 2012.
