Frankie Dettori has ridden 11 of the 28 QIPCO British Champions Series races run this year – nine of them for John Gosden – having previously never ridden more than seven in a season.

The 48-year-old needs one more Series success this campaign to equal the record 12 that Ryan Moore partnered in 2017.

Seven races remain, including the Magners Rose Doncaster Cup on Friday, in which Dettori could partner all-conquering stayer Stradivarius, plus the William Hill St Leger on Saturday, when his mount will be the favourite, Logician, an unbeaten son of Frankel.

Nine of Dettori’s Series wins have been achieved in Group 1 races, with the outstanding Enable responsible for three of them.

Eight of his triumphs have been when riding the favourite, but getting on the market leader is no guarantee to success. Moore has himself partnered eight favourites in the QIPCO British Champions Series this year but none have won.

Overall, Dettori has ridden 14 winners at the highest level this year. His winners in the QIPCO British Champions Series have been:

1 Matchbook Yorkshire Cup: Stradivarius 4/5 fav
