Love is all you need in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas

Aidan O’Brien made up for a narrow 2nd in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas yesterday by going one better in the first fillies’ Classic of the season – as Love produced a sublime performance to win the QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.  It was a sixth win in the race for the master trainer and a fourth for jockey Ryan Moore.

Coming into the race Love had something to find from last season with favourite Quadrilateral on their bet365 Fillies’ Mile form. However Love eclipsed that rival today by winning with plenty to spare at the finish. Quadrilateral finished narrowly in third behind Cloak Of Spirits.

In-running Love was always prominent, choosing to race on the outside throughout the early stages. It was almost four in a line two furlongs out with Love, Final Song, Quadrilateral and Cloak Of Spirits seemingly having the race between them.

It was Love however who began to power her way to the front when asked for extra effort by pilot Ryan Moore, eventually scoring by a wide margin of four-and-a-quarter lengths.

After the race jockey Ryan Moore told ITV, “She’s a very uncomplicated filly. We’ve always thought an awful lot of her. She’s a typical Galileo filly. She was in control of the race from a long way out and won as she liked, really.”

Bookmakers have instilled her as the hot favourite for the 2nd fillies’ Classic of the season, the Investec Oaks at Epsom next month.
