SIR DANCEALOT

Trainer: David Elsworth
Form: 011316

Could Sir Dancealot develop into one of 2017’s top sprinters? Possibly, provided he is given the opportunity.

As a juvenile, Sir Dancealot’s principal weapon looked his speed and his best performance was when pouncing from off the pace, from an unfavourable draw, in the 6f Listed Rockingham Stakes at York in October.

“I was always going to win. He is a good horse,” Shane Kelly, his rider, said.

However, Sir Dancealot also registered two wins over 7f and on his final start he was upped to a mile for the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster.

He moved up menacingly two out in that race but faded to finish sixth – looking betrayed by a lack of stamina.

The QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 6 looks a fanciful notion after that reverse, although a couple of firms make him 40-1, but the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot could be tailor-made for him. He is quoted between 7-1 and 12-1 by some firms, but others do not even quote him.
