Outstanding Australian racemare Winx is in the frame to add extra intrigue to next year’s QIPCO British Champions Series.

The Chris Waller-trained mare extended her winning sequence to 20 at the weekend with victory victory in the George Main Stakes at Randwick.

She will now have a prep run before she takes aim at winning the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley for a third consecutive year but her connections already have one eye on next year.

Waller says a trip to Royal Ascot will be among possible options. Either the Queen Anne Stakes or Prince of Wales’s Stakes – both Series contests – seem likely to come under consideration.

The trainer said in a statement issued in the early hours of Wednesday: “To ease speculation on her future beyond 2017, I look forward to the autumn and a possible trip overseas but at this stage no decision on this will be made until after the George Ryder Stakes (in March).

“Providing she is well, she will run during The Championships in the Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes (April 8) and look to target a race during the Royal Ascot carnival or be freshened up subsequent to the George Ryder Stakes and be targeted towards a European campaign containing three races over a range of distances.

“Obviously this is a long-term plan and my team and I would much prefer to focus on the current campaign as we head towards such an important time of the Australian racing season.”

Since its inception in 2011, Black Caviar has been the only Australian-trained horse to win a Series race. She won the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2012 and retired having won all 25 of her races.
