Marco Botti hopes Al Jazzi can provide him with a first triumph in the QIPCO British Champions Series in the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket on October 7.

Newmarket-based Botti has saddled the runner-up in four Series races without landing one since its inception in 2011, including when Excelebration chased home Frankel that year in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on QIPCO British Champions Day.

Al Jazzi was runner-up in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot and showed that effort was no fluke with a decisive victory in a Group Three at Sandown last time.

“It’s so far, so good and the Sun Chariot is very much the plan,” Botti said on Tuesday. “She is in very good form and the runner-up at Sandown (Nathra) has since run a good race at Doncaster.

“She came out of the race at Sandown very well. We just hope the weather doesn’t turn really cold as fillies at this time of year can go a bit over the top quickly.

“The Sandown run confirmed Ascot was no fluke and she deserves another chance at Group One level.

“She has won at the Rowley Mile as a two-year-old and is a well-balanced filly so she should handle the dip. Having seen her win on the track before it gives you a little bit more faith and confidence.”
