Roaring Lion recovering from life-saving colic surgery

Roaring Lion has returned to Cambridge Stud in New Zealand, where he is recovering from two major colic operations.

The 2018 Cartier Horse of The Year recently shuttled to Cambridge Stud in New Zealand to undertake stallion duties in the southern hemisphere, following a successful first covering season at Tweenhills, home of Qatar Racing Stallions.

In this video David Redvers, Qatar Racing Manager and Owner of Tweenhills, talks through the timeline of events that resulted in the life-saving surgery for the stallion, who won three races that fall under the QIPCO British Champions Series umbrella last year.

David Redvers said: “The chances of a horse surviving one colic operation are slim. The chances of surviving two operations, where a large section of intestine is resected, are very slim indeed.

“It is a testament to the horse’s courage and the care that he was given that he has been able to return to Cambridge Stud, where he will continue his recuperation.”
