Circus Maximus heads 20 Queen Anne Stakes entries

There are a total of 20 entries for next week’s Queen Anne Stakes, the first Group 1 of Royal Ascot 2020.

Entries are headed by last year’s St James’s Palace winner, Circus Maximus for trainer Aidan O’Brien, but the full field has ensured it looks to be a competitive renewal. O’Brien has a very select hand for the race with Lancaster House his only other entry. The Galileo colt is very lightly raced and was unbeaten until finishing a disappointing 7th when favourite for a Group 2 at Leopardstown when most recently seen.

No less than five of the field have already secured success at the top level and will be looking to add to their Group 1 tally, which is the second race in the Mile category of the QIPCO British Champions Series. Both Mustashry and Billesdon Brook have already been successful in the Series’ Mile category, with the later returning to the winners’ enclosure most recently in the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes last October at Newmarket.

Other runners to note are Escobar who secured the valuable Balmoral Handicap (Sponsored by QIPCO) at QIPCO British Champions Day over a mile on Ascot’s straight course and the John Gosden-trained Terebellum who was very impressive when securing the Group 2 Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket last weekend. Accidental Agent, a winner of the race two year’s ago, also can’t be ignored despite struggling for consistent form since.
