AND THEY’RE OFF! Shocked Londoners Challenged to a “Commute of Champions”

Londoners, more usually used to travelling at a snail’s pace on the capital’s underground system, were shocked when two jockeys challenged them to a high speed version of the daily commute.

Switching the racecourse for the underground, the jockeys took a detour during rush hour to challenge travellers to a ‘Commute of Champions’.

Wearing full racing silks, breeches and crash helmets, the pair stunned confused onlookers as they cantered confidently through some of London’s most famous landmarks, challenging Londoners in a race to win tickets to QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot racecourse on Saturday 15th October.

Whilst it’s fair to say that some commuters had a bit of a mare, others were more than happy to indulge in a bit of horseplay.

Dilan Mehta couldn’t believe his luck on his way to the office: “I don’t usually expect to be caught up in a race first thing in the morning while in my suit! I’m always up for a bit of fun and couldn’t say no to a race. I’m slightly competitive so pleased I won and I didn’t expect to win tickets to QIPCO British Champions Day either so it made my day! I’m really looking forward to Ascot!’

QIPCO British Champions Day is the richest raceday in Britain with £4.2million in prize money and attracts some of the world’s best horses and jockeys. Away from the track there is plenty to keep everyone entertained with sporting soprano Laura Wright singing live, a parade of medal-winning Olympians and Paralympians and an after-party with BBC Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox and Sigala. The only available tickets are in the Queen Anne Enclosure (Grandstand), with both the Winning Post and King Edward VII enclosures having sold out. Under 18s go free and, following on from the success of last two years, 2,500 students will again be able to attend for FREE.
